• Deangelo

    Deangelo from 3rd grade:

Q: What’s the coolest picture you ever drew?

A: Hi Deangelo. Recently I drew a picture of Rammus, the minotaur, staring down Anne Mai sinisterly. I thought it was pretty cool. That was also a memorable scene for me to write in Ring Dragonz. I hope to have all new artwork up available in the free posters section soon :)

  • Sly

    Sly from 3rd grade:

Q: What are the steps of writing?

    A:
    Step 1: imagination

    Step 2: imagination

    Step 3: imagination

Sly, Albert Einstein said, “imagination is more important than knowledge.” No matter what you do in life, imagination is key :)

    Step 4: outline

    Step 5: revise

    Step 6: edit

  • Maddie Patootie

    Maddie from 3rd grade:

Q: Why did you put some of your family in Ring Dragonz?

A: Maddie, one of the first things I ever heard about writing growing up was that you’re supposed to write what you know. When I was young I used to complain, “how can I write what I know when all I want to write is space stories and I’ve never been to space?!”

Well, as I got older, I realized what that really means is to just write honestly. Don’t pretend you’re something you’re not even if your story takes place somewhere you’ve never been (if that makes any sense). Base your characters on the real people who you know and that inspire you, like Anne Mai in Ring Dragonz is based on your teacher :)

ps – I was absolutely inspired by your Ring Dragonz drawing! Awesome!

  • Julie and Julia

So there Mister Rengerz was with his wife (Mrs. Rengerz) at Hollywood video last Saturday night doing our usual thing. I was searching for a guy DVD, and she was searching for a girlie DVD. This is how it always goes, because I am a guy, and she is a girl, and I will not have a search of my rentals history reveal that I am top heavy with chicky flicks.

Mister Rengerz found Pandorum, and Mrs. Rengerz decided on Julie and Julia.

Well, I will save you the review of Pandorum and skip right to the fact that Mrs. Rengerz selected a beautiful Nora Ephron film in choosing Julie and Julia, and, though reluctant to watch at first, I got roped right into the story.

Julie and Julia is about a young woman working at a post 911 insurance firm, but whose soul is longing for something. Owing to her great love of cooking and struggling to find inspiration to write a novel, Julie decides to cook her way through a Julia Child’s cookbook in 365 days, and blog about it everyday, every step of the way.

There’s the rub. Right there. That’s why this story got to me. Julie and Julia is based on two true life stories, Julie’s, and Julia’s (Meryl Streep drops another Silkwoodian performance as Julia Child), and I was inspired by how Julie forces herself out of life’s stagnation by regimenting her blogging. On a personal note, it was also a very touching scene when Julia gets a letter from her sister informing her she’s pregnant, and Julia starts crying on her husband’s shoulder about how happy she is for her. Julia Child and her husband, Charles, never had any children.

Anyway. Yup. You guessed it. I’m going to start blogging about Julia Child’s recipes everyday.

    No.

I’m going to be brave and courageous like Julie and start blogging everyday, just not about recipes, as I can’t even cook a pop tart. Sorry, Julia.

Truthfully, my fear of blogging is exactly the same as Julie’s from the movie. What if it just falls into a big digital black hole and nobody cares what you’re blogging about.

Well, if Julie can do it, so can I :)

So, what will I blog about everyday? Not sure. But I’m sure Julie was uncertain about things in the beginning, too.

Okay. That’s it for today. This is Mister Rengerz signing off, last survivor of the Nostromo (Alien. 1979. Now that’s a sci fi movie!)
